My dad's first night in the United States was in Tuskegee, AL. Imagine arriving in a country where you barely speak the language and you don't know a single person. My dad's first impression of the US is difficult to imagine. Plus, the Tuskegee Institute, the name used when my dad was there in the 70s, is a Black school. He noticed that on the bus all the African Americans would sit in the back, even in the late 70s. As an Asian, my dad would drink from the "white" fountains. It is amazing to me that he stayed for an entire year and barely knew any English. He was so happy today to be back at old his school, we even ate his old dinning hall. Of course we were the only Asians in the entire place, but we got to go down memory lane with my dad. The food at Tuskegee was typical student food but they did have candy yams and other southern comfort food.
My dad wanted to take a picture with current Tuskegee students, he looks so happy and cute. They were nice enough to point out some buildings on campus.

I am loving the Southern hospitality.
